Seeing Into The Heart Through Dreams
One of the greatest things about dreams is that they can allow us to see into a person's heart, even when we don't know them all that well personally. And when it's someone we do know, even then they may not be the type to wear their emotions on their sleeves or open up to others very easily. But the Spirit of God can nevertheless reveal to you almost instantly where they are emotionally through a dream, and allow you to minister to them where they are hurting most.
Such was the case with a woman I once talked to, whom a friend of mine had received a dream about. In the dream he said he saw a woman playing a guitar in a club, and since my friend was himself a guitar player he understood what he was seeing when the Lord allowed him to see things up close and personal.
Sad Guitar Lady Dream
I was in a very small bar or club and was sitting right next to a lady singing and playing guitar. Her guitar was in a slack key tuning I guess, a very dropped tuning. She played and sang a few songs, and they were slow and bluesy. I was more captivated by the lady herself than the music. In between songs I got to examine her guitar, and it was 000 size and black acoustic 12 string. Some of the strings are intertwined in pairs before they went through the nut on the headstock, and the bottom and top strings were nylon but the rest are metal strings. The two nylon strings make a sharp right angle before going to the nut. There were two wound strings only, and one of them had a barrel-shaped bead on it. I got to touch the strings and they are really loose tension. When the strings got to the neck they were in two layers, but somehow she was playing them.
At the end of her set I talked to her, but she just looked at me sadly and said nothing. She went and sat in the floor in a corner in the room with her back against the wall, with her knees pulled up to her chest. She was maybe 5 feet tall, waifish but not too thin but a knockout, her eyes and lips were beautiful. Very short hair and very dark south African skin. End of dream.
As he went on to say, the guitar itself seemed almost unplayable the way it had been constructed:
The head stock was shown to me up close, maybe a foot away. So what I was seeing there was important to the dream. The twining of strings between the machine heads and the nut puzzled me in the dream. How could you even tune it accurately? And the two nylon strings doing a right angle before they went to the nut, so crazy. Plus mixing nylon with steel strings?!? And then multiple layers of strings?
The symbolism here was of a woman who was very spread out emotionally, and none of her relationships had worked out for her. Though she had tried many times, she had been unlucky in love, and while each one still held a place in her heart, the music within her was now a continual song of sadness because none had brought her the joy she hoped for. This was evident in not only her going to a corner to sit in sadness, but because her songs were slow and bluesy, and slack key tuning was a way of down tuning a guitar to make it sound even lower (and sadder) than normal. Maybe saddest of all, the dream suggested she likely wouldn't be able to fix her problems on her own no matter what she did, because the guitar itself was almost unmanageable, and served as a reflection that her life was almost unmanageable now as well given what it had become.
But I knew what the Spirit was saying to this woman, and that her life wasn't going to remain and endless string of sad songs forever. He was going to bring joy out of sadness. I recalled an old song where slack key tuning was used, only it was a beautiful and lighthearted song instead of a sad one, so I sent it to her and told her there was someone coming who would change the sound of her heart. He would give her a happier song to sing, and stand with her, so that together they showed the world what harmony was.
The dream demonstrated how the Spirit of God can see right past a person's surface to what is going on in the heart. When this happens, the individual doesn't have to rehash all the awful things that have happened to them in their life, or open up at length to a total stranger they don't even know. The Spirit will zero in on what the problem is without them having to go through all that, and in many cases provide what is ultimately the remedy to their situation.
Would that all counseling were done by the Spirit of God Himself, as the True and Living God knows our hearts, and knows how to fix even the most complicated of lives. There isn't a situation in the world where He can't turn a person's life from sadness into joy, and from a past characterized by failures into a song with a beautiful and happy ending.
