Understanding The Spiritual Battle

Understanding that the enemy has a spiritual leadership structure over certain territories or regions.

These regional spirits control regions and could be likened to a Strongman, who is in authority over other unclean spirits.

1 They came to the other side of the sea, to the region of the Gerasenes. 2 When Jesus got out of the boat, immediately a man from the tombs with an unclean spirit met Him, 3 and the man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with chains. 4 For he had often been bound with shackles [for the feet] and with chains, and he tore apart the chains and broke the shackles into pieces, and no one was strong enough to subdue and tame him. 5 Night and day he was constantly screaming and shrieking among the tombs and on the mountains, and cutting himself with [sharp] stones. 6 Seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran up and bowed down before Him [in homage]; 7 and screaming with a loud voice, he said, “What business do we have in common with each other, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore you by God [swear to me], do not torment me!” 8 For Jesus had been saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!” 9 He was asking him, “What is your name?” And he replied, “My name is Legion; for we are many.” 10 And he began begging Him repeatedly not to send them out of the region. 11 Now there was a large herd of pigs grazing there on the mountain. 12 And the demons begged Him, saying, “Send us to the pigs so that we may go into them!” 13 Jesus gave them permission. And the unclean spirits came out [of the man] and entered the pigs. The herd, numbering about two thousand, rushed down the steep bank into the sea; and they were drowned [one after the other] in the sea.

14 The herdsmen [tending the pigs] ran away and reported it in the city and in the country. And the people came to see what had happened. 15 They came to Jesus and saw the man who had been demon-possessed sitting down, clothed and in his right mind, the man who had [previously] had the “legion” [of demons]; and they were frightened. 16 Those who had seen it described [in detail] to the people what had happened to the demon-possessed man, and [told them all] about the pigs. 17 So the people began to beg with Jesus to leave their region. 18 As He was stepping into the boat, the [Gentile] man who had been demon-possessed was begging with Him [asking] that he might go with Him [as a disciple]. 19 Jesus did not let him [come], but [instead] He said to him, “Go home to your family and tell them all the great things that the Lord has done for you, and how He has had mercy on you.” 20 So he [obeyed and] went away and began to publicly proclaim in Decapolis [the region of the ten Hellenistic cities] all the great things that Jesus had done for him; and all the people were astonished. Mark 5:1-20 AMP

By defeating this territorial spirit called Legion, who held the region of Decapolis under his dominion, Jesus opened up the Gospel for that region through the testimony of the man who was formerly bound by Legion.

Likewise, this strategy of overcoming the power of these witch doctors who hold their territories in bondage by fear, these missionaries are seeing many people come to Christ once the people see the power of the Spirit of God is greater than the power of the devil.

Just started watching, and 13:39+ about the poison placed in well by the witchdoctor not effecting them is good. Fulfillment of prophecy. What's always interesting about the power of darkness is that it is always for the effect of destroying people, or deceiving and then subjugating them into bondage and slavery. The power of God heals and delivers.

Something he says around 19:20 is interesting too. The enemy tries to make people believe in a false "fate" that they are powerless to escape. It's the same as what exists in Calvinism, this sort of disarming mentality that makes people assume "what will be will be," instead of turning to the Lord Jesus Christ to MAKE things happen differently then the way the Devil is directing them.

That's right! I'm at 32:30 right now, and I've always said that is HOW God hardened Pharaoh's heart. He didn't somehow force thoughts into Pharaoh's mind, He simply set up a situation where Pharaoh would think Moses was just performing common witchcraft again like happened quite often in Egypt, be unimpressed, and therefore refuse to let the Israelites go. Only after the third demonstration, the Egyptian magicians couldn't match things anymore...

Ooh... yeah 33:25+ I've heard about this, but never heard a testimony on it before. It's called Monitoring Spirits (or Watcher Spirits). Kinda important in the spiritual war, cuz it's not great having them watching your moves. It's similar to the Seer's gift, only a seer is enabled to visibly see things through the Holy Spirit only as the Lord allows and directs, whereas monitoring spirits are demonic and can be directed at the will of the witch, albeit at a spiritual price tag of greater bondage to Satan.

39:00+ is good too. I have a piece on this, and that the enemy will simply know who you are (and if necessary where you live). They know supernaturally.

Absolutely. I'm at 45:35 and just finished the section on the villagers trying to kill the Christian man at night but God supernaturally protected him, and some of the things he says about every time they would evangelize an area it was because a spiritual battle between Light and Darkness.

This is WHY I am not afraid of the spiritual war. I run TO it, and not away from it. There was a prophet who came to my wife's church 3-4 months ago and he was preaching this very same message. He was preaching off a text in 1 Kings 6 I think, but the message was ultimately that the prophet of God will show the servants of darkness that they are serving the wrong god. They end up eating dung and worthless things, and when they realize the error of their ways they want something better instead, after seeing Who the REAL power is.

One of the reasons I have started the thread in your area at CF.net called "do you love the truth" is I wanted to introduce what Paul calls "THE LIE".

This is exactly what "Calvinism" embodies.

And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 2 Thessalonians 2:11-12


"THE LIE" refers to Genesis 3:4.

Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. Genesis 3:4

Paraphrase: Go ahead Eve and disobey God, you will not surely die.

This is the embodiment of OSAS.

We have it in mind to make some changes to start curbing that business. They are especially used by the enemy to attack the belief in and operation in the gifts, and that's no coincidence. The Devil hates the gifts because they will expose him, so he sets up doctrines specifically designed to attack them, with Calvinism being chief among them when it comes to that.

I intend to watch the rest soon, hopefully tomorrow, and then maybe I can comment some more. The host seems like he may have some more decent programming. He's a little slow in his delivery and discussion development, but his content and guests are apparently very high quality : )
