Be a part of something great

The book of Joel prophesies that God will raise up an end-time army, and they will prophesy, dream dreams and see visions. They will destroy much of Satan's work before the Antichrist finally arises, restore hope in the power of God, and usher in the end-time harvest. In preparation, this community is designed to be a home for everyone called to be part of that army, and fulfill His end-time work.

The Financial Exploitation Of Christians, Part 1

The cover for this piece is a picture of Ramon Abbas, aka "Hushpuppi," the notorious Nigerian con artist who ripped people off over the internet to the tune of millions of dollars. His most successful schemes were perpetrated against well-meaning charitable types, and he was finally arrested a few years ago for attempting to steal more than $1.1 million dollars off someone who thought they would be helping fund a new children's school in Qatar.

Hushpuppi is now in a US prison serving 11 years, but the lying spirit that dwelt within him is still alive and well, and has made several appearances on the Christian forums in recent years. Most recently it surfaced at Christian Forums.net, in the form of "Kienyui," a notorious con who we found regularly seeking to scam well-meaning Christians. The cons always bore similar marks, whether it was saving him from "imminent death" at the hands of Boko Haram, or keeping his supposedly ailing mother from dying, or protecting his child who hadn't eaten for days and whom he would "have to abandon in the street" because he didn't have enough money to feed him. The scams were good, and pulled on the heartstrings, but eventually a man's sin will find him out.

As background, I will post one of his earlier cons first, to set the stage for what happened a month or so ago. This was his con from the previous year, which he sent to multiple Christian forums under the name "Plavious":

I am here today to let the world know that serious genocide is going on in Cameroon. I wish this can get to authority that be. Since Monday, thousands of people have been murdered by either separatist arm groups or government force. There is gunshots everywhere as i write. Separatist armed groups and government forces committed human rights abuses, including mass killings and rapes across Cameroon... The night was long. We met worse scenes as compared to yesterday. This is so cruel. Beloves in Christ, in anyway you can, help resettle me(us) in a neighbouring country. If I survive last night, I might not survive another night. Separatist fighters and government force are going around in the night roasting people to ashes in their hideout. Pray for us.

He then sent images of the atrocities that were "currently" going on.

The problem however was that a friend sent me a link to another webpage showing how these images were actually from four years earlier, and not recent. After asking him about this inconsistency, Plavious suddenly went deathly silent and never posted again.

Now he was showing up a year later under the name "Kienyui," and again pleading desperately for help. The con was similar. He again made references to being beaten by separatist fighters, with the new twist being that his "son" was now going to die because he had no money, so he would soon have to abandon him.

I was brutalized in an attempt to force me join the separatist fighters. I was beaten and butchered with cutlass. They abandoned me when they thought I was dead. God saved me mysteriously and I underwent treatment for years to be able to be here today... I just arrived where he is. We will both die. I honestly don't want to leave him but things have gotten out of hand. I myself am weak. He doesn't even have the energy to stand and talk, he is just quietly looking at me. It is for days without food. Can you imagine.

However, another member (whom I will simply call Joseph here), soon joined to warn everyone that Kienyui was a liar and a scam artist, and trying to milk the members of our community out of their money. The posts read as follows:

Please, we have investigated Muh Plavious Kienyui and found he is a chronic scammer whose targets are Christians... When he scammed people in his home country of Cameroon and was arrested, he used that ["testimony"] to write stories to soft-hearted Christians to scam them.... He scammed a couple in New Zealand out of a car which he later sold... and scammed a group of persons in Obala and Yaounde near Yaounde. We contacted some of those persons and got confirmation.

There was even mention of a three million dollar scam he pulled on someone which could not be confirmed because it had been taken down. But whether true or not, I knew Keinyui was most certainly a con from his behavior a year earlier, so I posted the new member and thanked him, saying:

Thank you, Joseph. I saw someone using the name "Plavious" on other forums about a year or so ago, and it was the same story. All about how his country was suffering persecution and he was "about to be killed," and needed money to be extradited to another country if he was to survive. He even posted pictures of the "current" attacks, but someone pointed out to me that the images were five years old, and lifted from a website that was posting about it back when persecution actually WAS going on.

Those of us on staff then watched Plavious begin creating multiple duplicate accounts using his same IP Address (which means they were all coming from him), and using these new identities to praise Muh Plavious Kienyui as a "just and righteous" man, while notifying staff that the new member Joseph was actually the real scammer.

These are the lengths to which wicked and self-serving people will go to cheat well-meaning Christians out of their money. I won't go into what our eventual responses to Plavious were, but a link to the original thread where these confrontations took place is provided below.

In Part 2, I will go into how the Devil was pulling the same sorts of tricks on generous Christians during New Testament times, and that it is a deliberate attack by wicked spirits to undermine the generosity of the church, while exploiting them for financial gain.

Blessings in Christ,
Hidden In Him

"The words I speak to you, they are Spirit and they are Life."

Why did Jesus prophesy, heal the sick, raise the dead, and cast out demons? He performed signs and wonders to confirm the word (Mark 16:20), because it has the power to do more than just save from death. It has the power to grant eternal life (John 6:63). Scripture promises that He will confirm His word through signs and wonders once again (Joel 2:28), and what we teach may determine whether He does so through us or not, so study becomes extremely important. Please join us in studying verse by verse through entire books of the Bible. Understanding each verse in its theological and historical context as led by the Spirit is key to unlocking what the word actually teaches, and revealing what the Spirit is still speaking to the churches in these last days.
